This boy was 13 years old and came to school half-asleep and reeking of pot every Monday. His mother knew, but couldn’t do anything about it, or so she claimed. He was a great student on Tuesday-Friday. Mondays were the reason he was failing. A boy with ADHD whose mother, we’re pretty sure, was stealing his meds for herself. He always seemed to run out of meds midway through the month, and his mother was a known drug addict.

Those days when he The Legend drum set shirt was off of his med they were really “character builder” days for the teachers. I actually know what happened to that kid. He’s currently in prison. I was arrested for a crime I didn’t commit. Thought giving a statement wouldn’t hurt. Gave the statement, signed it, and then was handcuffed and put in a cell. I was confused because I wasn’t anywhere near the crime and my statement told the entire story. After I was fingerprinted they moved me to population. No money, no phone call, no way could I afford an attorney. Court appointed lawyer showed up 6 days later tried to get me to plea to the 1st degree felony!
